Many of my payroll and tax clients have less than 25 employees, but they are offering a 50% reimbursement for the individual employees insurance coverage. Many of the clients want me to run this through the payroll system. My question is should I run this through the payroll system and make this part of the employees compensation, subject to social security and medicare OR is this ok as an after tax reimbursement of the individuals self insured plan. My concern is if I do this that the business owner may be subject to the excise tax.

I appreciate your help!
